Women’s Volleyball Tripped Up by Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team had its recent momentum broken on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions suffered a 3-1 loss to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford in the KOA Arena.

Penn State Altoona (8-11, 3-2 AMCC) won the first set by a comfortable margin, 25-16. But Pitt-Bradford (9-14, 3-2 AMCC) responded by taking the second set 25-12, and the Panthers went on to grind out 27-25 and 26-24 wins in the third and fourth sets to take the match.

Lacee Barnhart (Bellefonte, PA/Bald Eagle) totaled a match-high 17 points and 15 kills while adding 15 digs. Taylor Myers (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) had 11.5 points on 11 kills and a block assist, and Makenna Port (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) posted 11 points on eight kills, four block assists, and one solo block.

Jadeyn Price (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored a season-best 8.5 points on eight kills and a block assist, and Morgan Fussell (Blairsville, GA/Union County) added five kills and a block assist for 5.5 points.

Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) put up 41 assists to go along with 11 digs, four kills, and two block assists.

Erin Lutz (State College, PA/State College) tallied a team-high 17 digs and chipped in seven assists. Allie Godwin (Pittsburgh, PA/West Allegheny) had a season-high 14 digs, and Anna Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) tied her season-high digs total with 11.

Penn State Altoona overcame an early deficit in the first set to surge ahead by a wide margin. After Pitt-Bradford led 8-6, the Lions outscored them 19-8 the rest of the way. Barnhart's ace put her team up 17-11 and prompted a Bradford timeout. Later, the Lions expanded their lead to 10 points on a duo block from Port and Price, and Port's kill capped the set at 25-16 for Penn State Altoona.

Penn State Altoona struggled in the second set, committing 10 attack errors. Trailing 16-12, Pitt-Bradford reeled off nine straight points to end the set and even the match score at 1-1.

Pitt-Bradford went on to pull out tight wins in the third and fourth sets, handing Penn State Altoona the tough AMCC loss.

The Lions return home for their next match on Wednesday, October 26, as the team will host AMCC opponent La Roche University at 7:00 p.m. in Adler Arena. The event is also the team's annual "Pink Out" match in support of breast cancer awareness.
