Women’s Tennis Edges Bradford for Second AMCC Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis got past Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford by a tight 5-4 margin in Sunday afternoon's match at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Pitt-Bradford (2-4, 2-4 AMCC) earned the early lead in the match, winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches by scores of 8-4 and 8-3. Penn State Altoona (3-4, 2-2 AMCC) salvaged a point in doubles in the No. 3 match, where Jenna Bartlett (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis)/Stephanie Swain (Yadkin County, NC/Forbush) recorded an 8-2 victory.

The Lions turned the tables on Pitt-Bradford in singles play, where they won four out of six matches to come from behind to win by one point.

Emily Neil (Altoona, PA/Altoona) earned a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles, and Dabin Shin (Palisades Park, NJ/Palisades Park) played to a 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 victory in the No. 3 singles match. Shin's win was the first of her collegiate career.

Meanwhile, Swain picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 match, and Bartlett capped things off with her team-leading sixth singles victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over her opponent in the No. 6 match.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis is back at home this Wednesday, October 6, hosting AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg for a match starting at 5:00 p.m.
