SB: Bison Ties School Record

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - For the second straight season, the Bethany College softball team has opened the season with a school record 12 consecutive victories.

Last season, it was LaRoche that handed the Bison their first loss of the year. There was no such let down this season as Bethany outscored the Redhawks 20-2 in completing the non-conference sweep.

GAME ONE: BETHANY 9, LAROCHE 0 (5 inn.)

Fifth-year Josie Wise hurled a complete game four-hitter as Bethany claimed the opener. Wise (7-0) struck out five with two walks over five innings.

Freshman Amber Dedmon went 3-of-3 with a run scored and RBI for her third multi-hit game. The three hits, all singles, were a career high. Graduate Destiny Goodnight had her seventh multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, and a stolen base.

Graduate Morgan Huey and junior Katelyn Ziems both drove in a pair of runs. Huey also displayed her defensive prowess throwing out both attempted stolen bases.

Bethany took the early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning as six of the first seven batters reached.

Senior Haley Eyler extended the lead with a solo shot in the third inning, and then Bethany tacked on two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

GAME TWO: BETHANY 11, LAROCHE 2 (5 inn.)

The top three hitters in the Bethany order – Goodnight, Huey, and freshman Olivia Kidd – combined to go 4-of-7 with four runs scored and six RBI as the Bison secured the sweep with a run-ruled 11-2 victory.

Goodnight was the primary catalyst, going 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Freshman Caitlin O'Farrell registered her third multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.

Bethany scored multiple runs in all five innings, posted two runs in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings, and three runs in the third inning.

Ziems (3-0) earned the victory, allowing two runs – one earned – on four hits over three innings with two strikeouts. Sophomore Victoria Wehrberger allowed just two hits over the final two innings.

Bethany (12-0) begins Presidents' Athletic Conference action 3:30 p.m. Friday, hosting Franciscan.
