Devils Defeat Lions 3-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team capped its September schedule with a 3-0 loss at the hands of non-conference opponent Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.

FDU-Florham (3-2-2) was propelled by two first half goals from Drilon Toska, and the Devils added a Faizan Arshad score early in the second half.

Alexander Ferry (Warren, PA/Warren) made his fifth start of the season at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona (2-4) and recorded 13 stops between the pipes. Ferry's total of 13 saves is tied for the fourth-most in a game in Lions soccer history.

FDU-Florham broke a scoreless tie at the 27:10 mark, when Toska threaded a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal on a free kick from just outside the left edge of the box. Toska struck again in the closing minutes of the period, as Oliver Trujillo sent a lead pass into the box and Toska chipped a shot past the keeper from eight yards out to make it 2-0 at 42:36.

The Devils increased their advantage to 3-0 at 47:53, when Arshad tucked a long-range kick into the top right corner of the goal. The visitors used a consistent attack to limit Penn State Altoona's scoring opportunities the rest of the way, and FDU-Florham maintained its three-goal lead through the final whistle.

Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) had two shots on goal for Penn State Altoona, while Cameron McCarthy (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg), Owen Myers (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove), and Bailey Musselman (Altoona, PA/Altoona) each finished with one shot on goal for the Lions.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer will now look ahead to next month for its next contest, when the Lions will embark on their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule. The Lions will travel on Saturday, October 1 to take on conference foe Alfred State College in a game set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
