Women’s Soccer Blanked 3-0 by OWU

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer suffered a 3-0 loss to non-conference opponent Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in a game played at Westminster College.

Ohio Wesleyan (1-0-1) used two goals midway through the first half to establish a lead by the intermission, then added one more early in the second period to close the scoring.

Avery Maxeiner's score at 21:16 put the Battling Bishops on the board, and Madison Cofer's tally at the 29:50 mark increased her team's lead to 2-0. Ohio Wesleyan tacked another goal on to its total early in the second half, when a shot from Ireland Nowak found the back of the net at 49:01 to make it 3-0.

Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) recorded a game-high three shots on goal for Penn State Altoona (0-2), while Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) and Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) each had one shot on goal.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) got the nod at goalkeeper for the Lions and made two saves.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer gets back on the pitch tomorrow, Sunday, September 4, traveling east to Huntingdon County to face non-conference opponent Juniata College at 7:00 p.m.
