Women’s Soccer Ties Hilbert 1-1

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team returned to the road on Saturday for another Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game, and the Lions settled for a 1-1 tie with conference opponent Hilbert College.

Schenley Farrell (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) scored her third goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (2-4-4, 1-0-1 AMCC), with Dee Dee Abbott (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) picking up the assist on the play.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) made her 10th start of the season between the pipes for Penn State Altoona, recording four saves in the draw.

The Lions scored the game's first goal midway through the first half. Abbott's corner kick came to Farrell, who sent a shot past the keeper at 24:14 to give Penn State Altoona a 1-0 lead.

The Lions' one-goal lead stood up until late in the second half, when Hilbert (3-5-3, 0-1-1 AMCC) broke through the even the score on an own goal that tied the game 1-1 at the 71:23 mark.

Each team had scoring chances in the final minutes of the game, but none of them resulted in a potential go-ahead goal, and the contest ended 1-1.

Penn State Altoona finished the day with a wide advantage in shot attempts, leading Hilbert 23-9 in shots attempted, including outshooting the Hawks 15-2 during the first half. The Lions also led 11-5 in shots on goal and 7-2 in corner kicks.

Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had a game-high three shots on goal in four total shot attempts, while Farrell had two shots on goal in four attempts. Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) totaled two shots on goal in three attempts.

Penn State Altoona completes its western New York road trip tomorrow, Sunday, October 9, when the Lions will take on former AMCC opponent Medaille College at 1:00 p.m.
