Casie Cygan, La Roche CollegeMarch 03, 2014Cygan averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and shot 68% from the field as the Lady Redhawks won their fourth consecutive AMCC championship. The senior scored a career-high 35 points and broke the school’s all-time scoring record in an 80-67 semifinal win over Pitt-Bradford. Cygan scored another 16 points and grabbed 7 boards in a 91-55 win over Mount Aloysius for the title. Cygan finishes the season ranked 1st in points per game (18.3) and 4th in FG % (49.7%).

Brittnee Perry, Medaille CollegeFebruary 24, 2014Perry averaged 16.7 points and 11.0 rebounds to lead the Mavericks in a strong regular season finish. In a loss to John Carroll, Perry drained 20 points and grabbed 8 boards, adding 2 assists and 1 steal as well. Two days later, the senior tallied another 17 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double, along with another 3 assists and 2 steals. Finishing out the week, Perry dropped another 13 points and 10 boards for another double-double, again adding 3 assists and 3 steals. Her strong offensive and defensive presence led the Mavericks to a share of the regular season title and the #2 seed in the AMCC tournament.

Bridget Andrews, D’Youville CollegeFebruary 17, 2014Andrews made a career-high six 3-pointers in a loss to Medaille, draining 20 points in total and shooting 100% from the line. She also added 1 assist and 2 steals. In the win over PS-Altoona, the guard scored another 18 points while shooting 75% from the line and grabbing 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and another steal. On the week, Andrews averaged 19 points.

Joelle Pollak, Medialle CollegeFebruary 10, 2014Pollak rebounded from an ankle-injury that left her out a game by leading the Mavericks to a pair of conference wins. Against PS-Behrend, the senior guard scored 22 points and grabbed 7 boards with 2 steals to lead her team to victory. She followed this performance with another 28 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in a win over PS-Altoona. On the week, Pollak averaged 25.0 ppg and 4.5 rpg with 2.0 spg, shooting at 47.4% from the floor, 54.2% from behind the arc, and 100% from the line.

Ally Burke, Penn State BehrendFebruary 03, 2014Burke had a strong week for the Lions, despite her team going 0-2 in conference play. In a loss to D’Youville, the junior recorded 17 points and grabbed 5 boards and 2 assists while shooting 40% from the floor and 83% from the line. Burke followed this with an even more impressive 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists in a loss to Mount Aloysius, with a 53.3 shooting percentage and going 100% from the line. On the week, Burke averaged 18.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg.

PITT-GREENSBURG BASKETBALL TEAMS UP WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICSJanuary 30, 2014Members of the Pitt-Greensburg men’s and women’s basketball team joined Special Olympics of Pennsylvania (SOPA) coaches in running a basketball practice for local Special Olympic athletes on January 15.

Natalie Whitman, Hilbert CollegeJanuary 27, 2014Whitman earned her 1,000 collegiate point during the 2-1 week for the Lady Hawks. The senior averaged a double-double, with 16 ppg and 15.7 rpg while shooting 45% from the floor. In the AMCC, Whitman is currently ranked 5th in points per game (15.1), 2nd in rebounds per game (11.4), 1st in total rebounds (193), and 2nd in total points (257).

Lindsy Sammarco, Mount Aloysius CollegeJanuary 20, 2014Sammarco had a strong week, averaging 18.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg with 4 steals to lead the Lady Mounties in a pair of conference victories. Against PS-Altoona, the senior drained 24 points and grabbed 8 boards while shooting 66.7% from behind the. Sammarco followed this performance with another 13 points and 4 rebounds against Pitt-Bradford.

Natalie Whitman, Hilbert CollegeJanuary 13, 2014Whitman averaged 18.0 points and 12.3 rebounds, posting a double-double in all three conference games this week for the Hawks. Her highlight effort came against Mount Aloysius, where she recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. Whitman is the only AMCC player to be ranked in the top 5 in both scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg).

Joelle Pollak, Medaille CollegeJanuary 06, 2014Pollak averaged 20.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.5 apg to propel the Mavericks to a pair of wins. Against Middlebury College she racked up , then followed up with a point, effort to defeat AMCC rival Mount Aloysius.

Lacey Huck, Franciscan UniversityDecember 16, 2013Huck was outstanding for the Lady Barons last weekend, earning a double-double in both games to average 20.0 points and 14.5 rebounds in Franciscan's 1-1 weekend. Her 23 points and 12 rebounds fuelled a win over Hilbert, and she contributed 17 points and 17 boards in a close loss to D'Youville. The junior foward was nearly flawless from the foul line (20 for 22) while hitting 52% (10-19) of her field goal attempts.
