The Celtics (8-8, 6-3 AMCC) scored 20 points off 14 Hilbert (1-19, 1-10 AMCC) turnovers on the afternoon. Hilbert outscored Carlow in the first and fourth quarters, but a 30-12 advantage in the second quarter kept the Celtics out of reach.
Sydney Carr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) led Carlow with a game-high 20 points and six steals, while also dishing out five assists. Emma Aubrey (Bristol, Tenn./Sullivan East HS) hit four treys to tally 12 points, and Shaelyn Clark (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong HS) added 11 points, four steals and three assists. Emiley Hillgartner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) contributed a game-high six assists in the win.
Hilbert outscored Carlow 16-13 in the first quarter before the Celtics pulled ahead in the second. Carlow went on a 9-3 run that spanned over three minutes to lead 27-19. The Hawks rallied to trail by six points several times throughout the quarter, but a three-pointer from Aubrey and a jumper by Carr afforded the Celtics an 11-point lead with a minute remaining in the half. After a 30-point quarter, the Celtics took a 43-28 advantage into intermission.
Both teams returned from the locker room with a slow start to the second half, as neither team broke double figures in the third quarter. Hilbert outscored Carlow 17-13 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to erase the first half deficit.
The Celtics hit nine three-pointers on the afternoon and outscored the Hawks 24-16 in the paint. Hilbert outrebounded Carlow 44-36 and held a marginal 12-10 advantage off the bench.
Kylie Morgan led the Hawks with a double-double 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kelsey Schlagenhauf added 10 points in the effort.
The Celtics travel to Pitt Greensburg for a 7 p.m. AMCC game Feb. 5.
