Men’s Volleyball swept in AMCC match against Mount Aloysius

PITTSBURGH --- Mount Aloysius College swept Carlow University men's volleyball 3-0 in an AMCC match inside St. Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center gym Wednesday night.

The loss dropped the Celtics to 3-12 overall and 0-4 in conference action, while the Mounties improved to 7-12 and 1-4 in the AMCC.

Will Piccolino led Carlow with 11 kills, James Stone tallied 22 assists and Gavin McLain landed two solo blocks in the effort.

Both teams kept it close through the first set, tying the game several times before landing at 15-all.

The Mounties went on a 6-1 run to lead 21-16, prompting a Carlow timeout.

Russ Cyprowski hit a kill following the timeout, and a Mount Aloysius error saw the Celtics trailing by three.

Two Carlow errors and a Mounties kill gave Mount Aloysius set point. The Celtics battled for two more points before a kill ended the set 25-20 in favor of the Mounties.

Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 12-7 advantage in the second set. Ahead 15-11, Mount Aloysius put together a 7-1 run to gain a 10-point lead over the Celtics en route to a 25-14 win. The Mounties hit .533 in the set.

Mount Aloysius posted a significant 14-5 lead in the third set, but Carlow continued to fight, taking advantage of a service ace and three Mount Aloysius errors to cut the Mounties' lead to five.

Three quick points gave Mount Aloysius the set and match point, and although the Celtics added two more points to the board, the Mounties landed a kill to earn the 25-18 set win and match victory.

Tayshaun Johnson led the Mounties with a game-high 13 kills and Andrew Wlodarczyk added 11 as Mount Aloysius hit .360 on the night.

The Celtics host Hilbert College for a 1 p.m. AMCC match March 23.
