Women’s Soccer Hangs On for 3-2 Win at Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer improved to 3-0 this season in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions fended off conference foe Medaille College for a 3-2 win at Buffalo Color Park.

Penn State Altoona (4-5, 3-0 AMCC) got another two-goal performance from Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford), while Sydni Warman (Dover, DE/Dover) scored the first goal of her collegiate career. Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) tallied two assists for the Lions.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) started at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona and earned her fourth win of the season, stopping six shots.

The first half was scoreless, despite Penn State Altoona outshooting Medaille (1-8, 0-2 AMCC) by margins of 16-3 in attempts and 8-2 in shots on goal. The floodgates opened in the second half, however, when the teams combined to put five goals on the board.

Medaille continued the flurry of offense, getting on the board at 62:31 on Yulisa Tosado-Munoz's goal that cut the Lions' advantage to 2-1.

McConnell notched her second goal of the day and team-leading fourth of the season to give her team a two-goal lead once again, going top shelf at 80:20 after taking a pass from Smith.

Medaille answered just 4:21 later, when Kelsey Matuszak's goal narrowed the Mavericks' deficit to 3-2.

But Penn State Altoona held off Medaille the rest of the way, including Baustert's save on Matuszak with 1:01 remaining in the game to preserve the Lions' lead.
