Women’s Soccer Plays Even With Mounties, 1-1

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer resumed its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule on Tuesday evening, when the Lions tied their nearby conference rival, Mount Aloysius College, 1-1 at Spring Run Stadium.

Penn State Altoona (3-4-5, 1-0-2 AMCC) scored early in the game and nursed a one-goal lead until the 86th minute, when Mount Aloysius (2-11-1, 1-1-1 AMCC) put the tying goal on the board.

KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) scored her first goal of the season for the Lions, and Dee Dee Abbott (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) registered her team-leading fourth assist of the year.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) recorded four saves between the pipes in her 12th start of the season for Penn State Altoona.

The Lions capitalized on a corner kick early in the first half to put one into the Mount Aloysius goal. Abbott sent a corner into the box, where it was collected by Wolfe and fired into the right side of the net at 10:33 to make it 1-0.

Penn State Altoona maintained its advantage on the scoreboard until late in the game, when Mount Aloysius struck to tie things up. Kendall Ebersole's corner kick found Jasmine Hinton, who sent a header just inside the left post at 85:47 to knot the score 1-1.

Each team narrowly missed scoring opportunities throughout the game that could have resulted in goals, which would have broken the eventual 1-1 tie. Penn State Altoona twice hit the crossbar with shots, and Mount Aloysius also had a near-miss off of the bar.

Penn State Altoona outshot Mount Aloysius 23-11 in attempts and 10-5 in shots on goal. The Mounties held a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.

Wolfe tied for the game-high with three shots on goal, attempting four shots in total. Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) attempted a game-high seven shots, putting two on goal, and Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) and Rachel Rutkowski (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) each had two shots on goal in three shot attempts.

Next up, Penn State Altoona will host AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend this Saturday, October 15 at 4:15 p.m.
