Men’s Soccer wins first game of the season in shutout at Penn State Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. --- Carlow University men's soccer picked up its first win of the season with a 4-0 shutout over Penn State Mont Alto Monday.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Celtics (1-3-1), and dropped the Nittany Lions to 2-3 on the season.

It was a night of firsts, as three different Celtic sophomores recorded their first career goals in the game.

Carlow wasted no time putting points on the board, with sophomore Gabe Gorsich scoring his first career goal just three minutes into the match.

Fellow sophomore Francis Bochicchio joined Gorsich minutes later with his first career goal in the seventh minute to put the Celtics ahead, 2-0.

Carlow was back up the field in no time when Gavin Moore found sophomore Konner Sayre to hand him his first career goal in the eighth minute.

Moore scored an unassisted goal of his own in the 41st minute to give the Celtics a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Mont Alto tightened up its defense in the second half to prevent the Celtics from scoring again, but Kevin Garcia and the Carlow defense kept the Nittany Lions off the board.

Garcia picked up four saves to record the clean sheet on the night.

Mont Alto out-shot the Celtics, 13-10, but Carlow put more shots on goal (8-4) and held a 5-3 corner kick advantage.

Carlow opens Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play with a trip to Hilbert (N.Y.) College Sept. 23.
