Women’s Soccer settles for scoreless tie on Senior Night

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer and Alfred State College battled to a 0-0 tie in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action at Highmark Stadium Saturday night.

Prior to the start of the match, the Celtics celebrated nine seniors.

Senior goalkeeper Kylee Pry put on a show for the Celtics (0-5-3, 0-2-1 AMCC) in net, making 11 saves to record the clean sheet.

A sliding tackle by Pry outside the 18 stopped an advance by the Pioneers (3-6-2, 2-2-1 AMCC) early on, and she made a big stop in the 27th minute to keep the Celtics in the game.

Meghan McCoy and senior Chloe Keller had chances to score in the 37th minute when McCoy's shot rebounded back out to Keller, but Alfred State goalkeeper Kate Sproul was able to come up with the save.

Keller saw another opportunity at 57' when Sproul fell and the ball escaped her grasp, but the Pioneers' defense fell in behind her to somehow clear the ball.

A foul inside the 18 afforded Alfred State a penalty kick in the 65th minute, and Pry once again came up with a big stop for the Celtics.

A Carlow corner kick at 72' rolled over the top of the crossbar and landed near Eve Hornick, but the sharp angle caused her to hit the post.

The Celtics put three more shots on goal before the end of regulation and were unable to get any of them to fall.

McCoy, Keller and Arley Wilson tallied two shots on goal each for the Celtics, while Jena Schelble put five shots on for the Pioneers.

Alfred State held a narrow 19-13 (11-10 on goal) shots advantage, while Carlow tallied four corner kicks to the Pioneers' two.
