Men’s Basketball falls to La Roche in AMCC home game

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's basketball lost a 79-59 AMCC contest to La Roche University at home Wednesday night.

The Celtics dropped to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in conference action, while the Redhawks extended their win streak to five games with a 7-9 overall and 6-3 AMCC record.

Byron Gaskins and Oscar Contreras led the Celtics with 13 points apiece. Gavin McLain contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Riley Comforti added 12 points in the effort.

Gaskins scored within the first 30 seconds of the game to put Carlow on the board, but a trey from the Redhawks a minute later gave them a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.

The Celtics kept it close throughout the first half before La Roche extended its advantage to double figures with a jumper around the 11-minute mark.

The Redhawks outscored Carlow 22-9 the remainder of the half to take a 24-point lead into halftime.

The Celtics outscored La Roche, 38-34, in the second half but could not overcome the deficit as the Redhawks maintained their advantage throughout the game.

La Roche outrebounded the Celtics, 51-35, and outscored Carlow 40-30 in the paint. The Redhawks shot 49.3 percent (34 for 69) from the field on the night.

Bryce Epps scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Redhawks, and Michael Brooks added a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Two other La Roche players contributed double figures in the win.
