Women’s Volleyball goes 0-2 at Thiel College Tri-Match

GREENVILLE, Pa. --- Carlow University women's volleyball went 0-2 at the Thiel College tri-match Friday evening.

vs. Thiel: L, 3-0 (25-14, 30-28, 25-15)

The Celtics (6-7) faced host Thiel College (2-11) in the first match of the afternoon.

Rebecca Hess led Carlow with nine kills in the match, while Claire Yezovich tallied 12 digs and two service aces. Meghan Alexander put up 30 assists, and Javonna Perkins added three blocks in the effort.

The Celtics trailed, 15-7, in the first set as the Tomcats cruised to a 25-14 victory.

Carlow led almost the entire second set and was ahead, 24-21; however, Thiel made a comeback to tie the score and force a win-by-two situation. With the game on the line, a Carlow attacking error and back-to-back kills gave Thiel the win.

Leading the Celtics, 2-0, the Tomcats hit .448 in the third and final set to sweep the match.

Daisy Jenness recorded 17 kills for the Tomcats.

vs. Westminster: L, 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-17)

Carlow played its second match of the evening against Westminster College, and the result was almost identical to the first game.

The Titans (9-6) got off to a slow start against the Celtics in the first set, but quickly settled in and strung together several points to gain a 12-8 advantage.

Westminster slowly built upon its lead to win, 25-18.

Carlow saw the second set play out much like its game against Thiel. The Celtics started with a lead, but were quickly overtaken by the Titans. This time, however, Carlow was the team that battled back to force the win-by-two scenario.

Unfortunately, the Titans ended up on top, 28-26.

Carlow started off strong in the third set, but the Titans went on a 6-0 run to gain a lead they would not relinquish en route to a 25-17 victory.

Hess led the Celtics with 10 kills, while Perkins added nine. Gabby Serrao tallied 16 digs, Alexander recorded 28 assists and Taylor Claypoole put up two blocks.

Lauren Lamps led the Titans with 11 kills, and Malia Duffy pulled up 27 digs on the night.

Westminster had 22 blocks to Carlow's six.
