Men's volleyball begins season in NCCAA national invitational

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - The men's volleyball team started their season with a pair of three-set losses in the NCCAA national invitational at Trinity Christian. The Panthers played the No. 3 seed Geneva and the the No. 2 seed Campbellsville.

The Panthers first competition was against Geneva, and GU fell 25-14, 25-20, 25-16. The Panthers hit at a rate below zero in the match with 23 kills and 25 errors.

George Black was the top point producer for the Panthers with 15 kills.

For the first time in the five year history of the men's volleyball program, the Panthers did not utilize a primary setter. Alejandro Condoy led Greenville will seven assists, and Logan Dameris had six.

Ryan Nelson worked on defense, picking up 10 digs.

Andrew Martin had a solo block and a block assist.

In GU's second match, the Panthers lost 25-15, 25-21, 25-12 to an undefeated Campbellsville team.

Black led GU with six kills, but it was a five kill performance and .714 hitting percentage from Martin that stood out.

Dameris picked up 10 of Greenville's assists, and he also led the Panthers with seven digs.

Dameris and Martin each had a solo block and a block assist.

The Panthers (0-2) play Judson on Saturday at 9 a.m. in their final match of pool play. Greenville will conclude the tournament in either the fifth place or seventh place match at 1 p.m.
