Men’s Basketball wins overtime thriller over Regent University

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- Carlow University men's basketball defeated Regent University, 87-79, in overtime on the road Saturday.

The Celtics (2-3) outscored the Royals (0-4), 42-26, in the first half, but Regent made a comeback in the second half, slowly chipping away at Carlow's lead until the very end of regulation.

Regent outscored the Celtics, 50-34, in the second half to eventually tie the game and force an overtime period.

The Celtics prevailed, scoring 11 points during the five-minute overtime and holding the Royals to just three to secure the win.

Byron Gaskins once again led the Celtics with 21 points, nine boards, three assists and three steals.

Oscar Contreras added 16 points, including three of Carlow's six treys on the day.

Kane Matthew tallied 12 points, while Jimmy Giannetta and Gavin McLain added 10 points apiece.

Carlow's defense allowed just one three-pointer from the Royals and the Celtics held a narrow 34-33 margin in rebounds.

Carlow concludes its trip to Virginia Beach with a noon game at The Apprentice School today.
