Penn State Altoona sweeps Women’s Volleyball in AMCC road game

ALTOONA, Pa. --- Carlow University women's volleyball was swept, 3-0, in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action at Penn State Altoona Tuesday.

The Lions (9-9, 4-0 AMCC) remained unbeaten in conference play as the Celtics fell to 8-12 overall and 0-4 in the AMCC.

Penn State Altoona did not allow a single Celtic to achieve double-digit kills, as Megan Cooper led Carlow with six on the night. Javonna Perkins and Rebecca Hess tallied five kills apiece, and Perkins recorded four blocks.

Gabby Serrao led the Carlow defense with 14 digs, and three other Celtics had double-digit digs in the effort.

Carlow jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set, hanging onto the advantage until the Lions went on a 9-1 run to gain a 17-13 lead. Altoona ultimately won the first set, 25-19.

Carlow lost the next two sets by the same score, 25-21.

The Celtics led almost the entire second set as well, but several errors and two Altoona service aces gave the Lions the lead once again.

The third set was almost identical in its outcome, with Carlow holding the lead through much of the set until the very end when the Lions made their comeback.

Lia Simanski led Altoona with a game-high 10 kills and 14 digs.

Carlow returns to action with a 1 p.m. AMCC match at Penn State Behrend Oct. 21.
