Men’s Basketball falls to Pitt Greensburg in AMCC road match

GREENSBURG, Pa. --- Carlow University men's basketball dropped an 81-63 AMCC contest to Pitt Greensburg on the road Wednesday.

The Celtics (4-16,2-11 AMCC) shot 55 percent (11 for 20) from beyond the arc on the night.

Oscar Contreras shot 4 for 8 from three-point range and scored a game- and career-high 26 points with three assists. Byron Gaskins sank three treys to add 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Riley Comforti pulled down 10 boards with four assists and three steals in the effort.

Carlow led through the first eight minutes of the first half before a three-pointer gave Pitt Greensburg a 12-10 lead. Both teams tied the score five times before landing at 25-all. The Bobcats (9-12,8-5 AMCC) outscored the Celtics 16-9 during the final five minutes of the half to take a 41-34 advantage into halftime.

The Celtics kept the score within single digits through the beginning of the second half before Pitt Greensburg went on a 19-6 run in a matter of five minutes to lead, 79-57, with 3:36 remaining in regulation as the Celtics ran out of time to make up the deficit.

The Bobcats outrebounded the Celtics 40-32 and scored 19 points off 12 Carlow turnovers. Pitt Greensburg outscored the Celtics 32-14 in the paint and 22-9 off the bench.

Matthew Marinchak led the Bobcats with 22 points and Trent Rozich had a double-double 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Two other Pitt Greensburg athletes contributed double figures in the win.

The Celtics host Mount Aloysius College for a 4 p.m. game Feb. 3.
