Women’s Volleyball rolls past Penn State Beaver behind 14 service aces

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's volleyball swept Penn State Beaver, 3-0, inside Saint Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center Monday evening.

The win over Penn State Beaver (6-6) brought the Celtics back up to an even .500 on the season.

Carlow recorded an incredible 14 service aces on the night, with Kelsey Sufak racking up half of them.

Alison Humberston led the Celtics with nine kills, and Meghan Alexander had 27 assists. Megan Cooper tallied three blocks on the night.

The Nittany Lions tied the score, 9-9, in the first set before Carlow went on an 8-1 run to gain a 17-10 lead.

Penn State Beaver brought it back to within two points several times toward the end of the game, but Carlow held on for the 25-21 win.

Both teams kept it close early in the second set, but once again Carlow pulled away midway through the game, going on a 10-3 run to take a 21-13 lead en route to a 25-15 win.

The Celtics hit a whopping .500 in the third set to solidify the win. Ahead, 10-4, Carlow piled on the points and did not allow the Nittany Lions to score the remainder of the game.

Zoie Reid had four kills and three aces for Penn State Beaver.

The Celtics hit the road for a 7 p.m. nonconference match at NCAA DII Salem (W.Va.) University Wednesday.
