Women’s Soccer held scoreless in final regular season game

PITTSBURGH --- Pitt Greensburg shut out Carlow University women's soccer, 5-0, in the Celtics' final regular season game at Highmark Stadium Tuesday.

Carlow ended the regular season 2-10-3 overall and 2-6-1 in its first year as a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Both of Carlow's wins this year were road matches.

The Bobcats (12-5-1, 8-0-1 AMCC) struck immediately with a goal just two minutes into the match.

Megan Hickey led Pitt Greensburg, scoring back-to-back goals at 67' and 75' and assisting on Maya Wertelet's goal in the ninth minute. Wertelet assisted Hickey's goal at 75', and Julia Rowe found Sarah Tonkovich on a long cross for a header in the 30th minute.

Pitt Greensburg out-shot the Celtics, 32-2 (23-2 on goal), and held an 11-1 corner kick advantage.

Rebecca Crawford was tabbed with the loss after making nine saves in the first half. Lyndsey Szekely played the second half in net, stopping seven shots.

Avery Dudek and Arley Wilson put the only two shots on goal for the Celtics.

Carlow awaits the announcement of the final USCAA standings to see if they made the cut for the championship tournament.
