Three-pointers sink Men’s Basketball in final game of the season at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. --- Carlow University men's basketball lost an 81-66 AMCC contest to Alfred State College on the road Saturday.

The Celtics (4-21, 2-16 AMCC) were down several players on the trip, and the Pioneers (14-11, 12-6 AMCC) scored 10 three-pointers on the afternoon.

Riley Comforti led the Celtics with a double-double 16 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Jimmy Giannetta and Galen Waters contributed 15 points apiece, and Clayton Cook added 10 points off the bench.

The Celtics struck first, but an Alfred State layup seconds later set off a 13-2 run for the Pioneers that gave them a lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the game.

A layup from Waters at 11:01 put Carlow on track to score seven points in a row before a jumper allowed the Pioneers to maintain their 10-point advantage.

A dunk by Gavin McLain kept Carlow within 10 and was met with a dunk on the other side of the court before Waters hit a trey to put the Celtics within nine.

Despite Carlow's best efforts, the Pioneers took a 10-point lead into halftime.

The teams went basket-for-basket throughout the second half which kept Carlow from closing the gap completely. Alfred State outscored the Celtics 16-8 through the final five minutes of the game to secure the win.

Carlow outscored Alfred State 52-40 in the paint and 18-7 off the bench. The Celtics outrebounded the Pioneers 28-26 and scored 12 points off 11 Alfred State turnovers. Carlow recorded double the number of second-chance points on the afternoon.

Paris Jamison led all scorers with 22 points. Three other Alfred State players contributed double figures, and Cody Schneider added 11 rebounds in the win.
