PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer recorded two goals in each half to win, 4-1, over visiting Penn State Beaver at Highmark Stadium Tuesday.
Hunter Brady (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York HS) and Shajit Pokwal (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) led the Celtics with one goal and one assist each.
The Celtics (2-2) struck first when a Connor Smith (Washington, Pa./Trinity HS) corner kick found Brady for a header in the 10th minute. A cross into the box that ricocheted off a Lions defender offered Carlow an own goal in the 21st minute as the Celtics held onto their 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
A late goal by Robert Chauvenne at 85' cut Carlow's lead to one but only seemed to ignite a fire for the Celtics.
Brady found Pokwal with a nice cross into the box for a header at 89', and Pokwal returned the favor just over a minute later with a cross that landed for Marcus Wilson (Olean, N.Y./Portville Central School).
The Lions attempted one final push and the shot from Chauvenne hit the post as time dwindled off the clock.
Alex Remington (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) earned the win in goal, making four stops in the first half. Zac Kolich (Enon Valley, Pa./Blackhawk HS/Pittsburgh Technical College) recorded two saves in the second half.
Penn State Beaver outshot Carlow 22-18 – 12-5 in the second half alone – while the Celtics held a narrow 6-5 corner kick advantage.
Carlow returns to the pitch for a 4 p.m. game against Waynesburg at Highmark Stadium Sept. 17.
