Franciscan hands Women’s Volleyball its first loss of the season

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio --- Carlow University women's volleyball lost, 3-0, to Franciscan University on the road Wednesday.

Alison Humberston led the Celtics (4-1) with 10 kills, Claire Yezovich contributed 14 digs and the team tallied six blocks on the day.

Carlow led, 8-5, to start the first set, but the Barons (2-2) went on a 7-1 run to take the lead. The Celtics battled to within three points, but Franciscan came out on top, 25-21.

Carlow kept it close in the second set, but the Barons steadily pulled away for the 25-19 win.

Franciscan hit .448 in the third set, leading by as many as eight points to win the set, 25-17, and the match.

Gabrielle Disselkamp put up 12 kills for the Barons, and Rani Hebert added 10. Grace Wallace tallied 38 assists and three of Franciscan's eight aces on the night.

The Celtics return to action with a close road match at neighboring Chatham University Sept. 12.
