AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR NOVEMBER 18-24, 2019

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's and women's basketball and swimming & diving for the period running from November 18-24, 2019.

 

Men's Basketball: La Roche G Kennedy Smith had a career weekend at the Geneva Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. In two games, Smith averaged 26.0 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 45% from the field. In La Roche's first game against Grove City, Smith corralled a career & conference season-high 16 rebounds and scored 20 points to pick up his first career double-double. In game two against Geneva, Smith scored a career-high 32 points on 7-for-9 from 3-PT while knocking down 12-24 FG (50%). All three are conference-highs this season. Smith is the first Redhawk since February 2016 to score 30+ points in a game. Kennedy's performances earned him a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Women's Basketball: D'Youville G Haley Kirisits had another big week for the Spartans, helping the women earn their first conference win of the season. On Wednesday against the reigning conference champion Hilbert Hawks, Kirisits led the team with 18 points in the 60-47 victory. She shot an outstanding 8-for-12 from the field in 38 minutes to go with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Then on Saturday in the 75-71 overtime loss to Keuka, Kirisits recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go with three steals and two assists. The freshman currently leads the team with 11.5 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game through six career games - five of which she has started. Her 46.7 FG% leads the team as well with Kirisits scoring double-figures in four of six games this season.

Men's Swimming: PS-Behrend SR Quinn Fischer won two individual events and swam on four winning relays to help the Lions capture the 2019 Oberlin Invite. He had a personal-best times in his two first-place finishes. Fischer won the 50 free (21.42) and the 100 free (46.89). He also took third in the 200 freestyle (1:44.70).

Men's Diving: SUNY Delhi FR Josh Lopez was first in 1m Diving at the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational.

Women's Swimming: PS-Altoona FR Grace Dangelo had another stellar showing for the Lady Lions during the three-day Oberlin College Invitational, accounting for all 79 of her team's points in the meet and setting two new Penn State Altoona women's swimming records and one AMCC women's swimming record. Dangelo took first place in the "A" final for the 200 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 2:12.32 to secure 32 points and set new records in that event for both the Penn State Altoona women's swimming program and the AMCC as a conference. Dangelo also set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record in the 200 Yard IM, during which she clocked in a 2:12.32 to break her own team record and take third place with 27 points. Dangelo capped off her weekend by winning the "B" final in the 100 Yard Butterfly, placing ninth overall with a time of 59.67 to score 20 points.
