Pioneers Spilt Against The Hawks

Buffalo, NY- The Alfred State softball team split today's doubleheader against Hilbert. The Pioneers took game one 15-1, before falling in game two 11-2.

Breena Komarnisky pitched a complete 5.0 inning game, where she scattered one run over four hits with two strikeouts. Audrey Farrell had a good game at the plate as she went 3-4 with four RBIs and two doubles. Abby Beidel went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Farrell led off with a single to center field, then stole second a few pitches later. McKinlee Harris followed with an RBI single to right field for the 1-0 lead. After an out and two hit by pitches to load the bases, an RBI sacrifice fly from Madigan Harris made it a 2-0 game.

The Hawks cut the lead down to one in their at-bat, but the Pios responded with two three run innings to take full control of the game. In the second, back-to-back singles got the inning started. Then after a sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, Farrell notched a two RBI double for the 4-1 lead. Farrell would then go to third on a wild pitch, before an RBI sacrifice fly from Mc. Harris made it a 5-1 game. In the third inning, the Pioneers got the bases loaded after two singles and a walk. Then Adriana DuVal tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Beidel followed with a two RBI double  to left field to make it an 8-1 game. Alfred State added seven insurance runs in the fourth, as they went on to win 15-1.

In game two, both Farrell and Beidel notched extra base hits while the Harris sisters tallied an RBI each. The Pioneers got on the board first with two runs in the opening frame. Farrell led off with a double then advanced to third on an error. Farrell would come home to score on an RBI groundout by Mc. Harris.  The Pioneers would then get the bases loaded with two singles and an error. Ma. Harris came away with an RBI on a fielder's choice to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawks would take control of the game late after some Alfred State error and went on to win 11-2.
