Softball Wins Both with Offensive Explosion

The Alfred State Pioneer offense started hot and stayed hot over SUNY Delhi, winning 10-0 in game 1 and 14-3 in game 2.

Game 1

After starting off with a demanding 2-0 lead, the bats stayed alive the entire game. Scoring 2 in the first inning with hits from Sarah Boyce and Lauryn Engle and capitalizing on an error by SUNY Delhi with a sacrifice fly from Kailey Wonica. The Pioneers added on one more in the second inning with a single to second base by Faith Capito and an RBI single by Sarah Boyce to score Faith Capito. The bats kept rolling in the third inning with a double from Audrey Farrell and two singles, one to left by Wonica and one to right by Engle, along with sacrifices from Felicia Capito and Faith Capito. The Pioneers added 1 more run in the sixth inning and then exploded for 4 runs in the seventh. Multiple singles from Nicole Youngberg, Ferrell, and Engle manufactured the runs. A RBI single from Faith Capito, along with a 2 RBI double from Abby Beidel finished the scoring for Alfred State. Outstanding pitching as well from Beidel, throwing a complete game, only giving up four hits, two walks while striking out two in the 10-0 win.

Game 2

After scoring one early, the Pioneers surrendered three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Alfred State responded by putting up a seven run inning in the top of the third and followed it up with five runs in the fourth inning. Every starter in the lineup had a basehit. That would be all the Pioneers would need, scoring 13 runs on 18 hits and run ruling SUNY Delhi 13-4 in a blowout win. Abby Beidel took the ball again and started game 2. Beidel went the distance again, throwing five innings, giving up six hits and four runs with one walk and one strikeout.

Alfred State plays again on Wednesday in a doubleheader at Medaille.
