Lions Snap Pioneers Winning Streak

In a battle of the last unbeaten teams in the AMCC, Penn State Behrend used a solid all-around effort to earn a 25-16, 25-23, 25-16 victory on Wednesday. Alfred State is now 14-2 on the year (4-1 AMCC) while the Lions are 17-4 (6-0 AMCC).

Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie) led the way with 11 kills and seven digs. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) finished with seven kills and five digs while Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) passed out 26 assists and had 13 digs.  Faith McCombs (Amityville/Copiague) and Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) both finished with five kills.

Hannah Phillips led the Lions with 11 kills, Dani Kosslow passed out 30 assists, and Madison Clapper led the way with 11 digs. 

Behrend led 8-7 in the first set, and they got three kills and an ace from Dani Kosslow to take a comfortable lead that they wouldn't give up. The second set featured 14 ties and five lead changes. The Pioneers led 21-18 but the Lions rallied to take the set. With the set three tied at 8-8, PSB rattled off 11 straight points to take control and close the match.

The Pioneers play their final three AMCC contests at home. They start that stretch with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday vs. La Roche.
