
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's lacrosse, men's volleyball, tennis and baseball, and women's softball for the period running from February 24-March 2, 2025.
Men's Volleyball (Offensive): PS-Altoona OPP Caleb Fries had another strong week to propel the Lions to a pair of non-conference wins. In Wednesday night's road win at Wilson, he finished with 17.5 points on 10 kills, six service aces, one solo block, and one block assist. On Sunday, in a non-conference win at Mount Aloysius, he totaled 18 points on 15 kills, four block assists, and one ace. On the week, Fries had 35.5 points (4.4 points per set), 25 kills (3.13 kills per set), seven aces (0.88 aces per set), and six total blocks (0.75 blocks per set), with an attack percentage of .242.
Men's Volleyball (Defensive): PS-Altoona MB Landen Fisher had a solid week at the net for the Lions, as his team posted non-conference road wins over Wilson and Mount Aloysius. In Wednesday night's victory at the Phoenix, he posted four block assists, and he followed that up with six block assists and one solo block in Sunday afternoon's win at the Mounties. On the week, Fisher had 11 total blocks (one solo block, 10 block assists) and averaged 1.38 blocks per set.
Baseball (Player): Alfred State UTIL Jordan Hughes led the Pios last week as they took down #7 Salisbury and Eastern Connecticut. He went 7-for-16 at the plate for an average of .438 with four doubles, a homerun, and four RBIs. In the win against Salisbury he also pitched 2.0 innings, notching a strikeout.
Baseball (Pitcher): Alfred State SR Ryan Bailey pitched a complete 9.0 inning game, picking up his second win of the season in an 8-1 victory over Eastern Connecticut. Bailey scattered one run over five hits with six strikeouts against the Warriors.
Softball (Player): Pitt-Greensburg INF Hunter Taylor went 3-for-5 in the Bobcat's opening-game win with three doubles and three RBI. She also scored two runs and had three assists and two putouts in the field.
Softball (Pitcher): Pitt-Greensburg FR Paige Phillips earned her first collegiate win in her first start as the Bobcats won the opening game of the team's season over Neumann. She struck out two batters over six innings.
Men's Lacrosse (Offensive): Pitt-Bradford A Ben Byers led the Panthers to the program's first ever win on Saturday, scoring five goals and assisting two more in the 16-3 win over Warren Wilson. He took 11 shots, putting nine on goal and converting at a 45.5% rate. He also gathered eight ground balls.
Men's Lacrosse (Defensive): Pitt-Bradford G Hunter Shank led the Panthers to the program's first victory on Saturday, making 11 saves at a 91.7% clip in the win over Warren Wilson. He allowed just one goal in 51 minutes of action.
Women's Lacrosse (Offensive): La Roche A Alecia D'Urso had an incredible start to her Redhawk career in a dominant victory over Geneva. D'Urso fell just one point shy of matching the single game points record, scoring six goals and adding four assists. She was 1-for-1 from free position, scooped up two ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Women's Lacrosse (Defensive): Mount Aloysius M Cassidy Cook contributed all over the field, as she scored three goals. However, her biggest impact was on the defensive end, where she grabbed five ground balls and caused five turnovers. She also had six draw controls, as the Mounties narrowly lost at Saint Vincent, 12-11.
Men's Tennis: PS-Behrend FR Vitaliy Pikalo posted a 2-1 overall record in both doubles and singles last week. He tallied a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles and posted a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles in the Lions' first AMCC win of the season.
