  • RUSTY THOMSEN, FRANK PARISI RETURN TO LEAD NJCU BOWLING PROGRAM

    For 11 seasons from 2002 to 2013, Frank Parisi and Rusty Thomsen formed one of the most illustrious coaching combinations in the history of NCAA women's bowling, leading the Division III New Jersey City University program to seven consecutive NCAA Bowling National Collegiate championships and four Final Fours, including a game shy of the 2008 national championship final.

    Koehler led all bowlers at the AMCC Championship in both Traditional (19.5) and Baker averages (18.77). Her overall average of 19.05 pins per frame was nearly a full pin higher than all others. Her 26.1% double percentage in the 10th frame also led all bowlers, and she lifted SVC to victories in three games for the weekend by converting all three strikes in the 10th in strike-out-or-lose situations.

    Amon rolled 57 frames in the second AMCC round robin, averaging 192.1 for the weekend. She had single game highs of 215 and 202 on day one of the round robin competition, and aided her team in securing the highest total pinfall for the weekend of 6,071 and a team average of 173.4 for the weekend. Amon had a strike percentage of 38.6 (highest overall) and a spare percentage of 78.1.

    Walsh led the AMCC this week with an 18.11 average in 100 frames of work.  She had an impressive 37.0% strike percentage and had a 77.0% fill percentage.

    Kohler earned Tournament MVP honors in the Br. Pat Lacey Memorial, leading a field of 54 bowlers. It was her second straight year as the tournament MVP. She was the only bowler to surpass the 1000 pin level for the day, shooting 1013 for an average of 202.6 per game. She was consistent throughout the day, with a low of 190 and a high of 222. She had just four open frames on the day and was "clean" in three of five contests.

    Fortunato tossed a staggering 132 frames last week in 13 matches at the Golden Bear Classic, the most of any bowler in the conference. She notched an 18.99 frame average which was third-best in the league, despite bowling quadruple the number of total frames of those above her. Fortunato had 59 strikes in 132 attempts for a 44.7 percentage strike rate that was second-best in the league. Her 8.83 first ball average and 76.9 percentage makeable spare percentage. Fortunato filled 84.1 percent of all frames. She also converted two of her eight splits on the week.

    Koehler had a record-setting weekend, helping to lead the Bearcats to a 5-1 record in the school's first-ever AMCC Round Robin and an 8-1 record overall for the week. The sophomore established a new school record with a Baker average of 22.45 for the tournament, including a 24 average on day two. On Saturday, Koehler needed two strikes in the 10th frame of the fifth Baker game against Mount Aloysius for Saint Vincent to win, and she pulled through with all three strikes as SVC set a school record with a 243 game. In the Mount Aloysius match, Koehler struck on 13 of 17 opportunities as SVC set a new school record with a five-game Baker total of 1,026. On day two of the tournament, she once again struck out in the 10th against Pitt-Bradford, as SVC equaled the record set the day before with a Baker score of 243. For the tournament, she faced a full rack 90 times and threw 57 strikes, a 63.3% strike percentage.

    AMCC bowlers are busy preparing for the first of two conference round robin tournaments that kicks off this weekend. Hilbert College will serve as the host, which will take place on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3 at Classic Lanes in Kenmore, NY.
  • Nicole Nebel, Mount Aloysius College, Women's Bowling

    Nebel rolled a 17.0 Baker average on the first day of the Red Flash Invitational and aided her team in a 3-2 record putting them in first place after day one. In Saturday's traditional format, Nicole averaged 200 for three games of traditional play which helped MAC Bowling secure the top seed heading into Sundays final rounds. On the final day of competition, Nebel was lead off in March one and later anchored the Mounties in the final match against SFU to a second place finish rolling an individual Baker average of 23.8 for 29 frames, setting a new school record and marking in 27 of 29 frames. For the three-day tournament, Nebel averaged 18.3 in the Baker format, 200 in team match play, and rolled a single-game high of 235.

    Fortunato placed first overall in a field of 79 bowlers and was the MVP of the Wildcat Division II-III Invitational in Wilmington, Del. Her 258 was the highest individual score in the tournament. Fortunato had the league's best traditional frame average this week (19.78) and a 17.01 Baker frame average (fifth overall). She also had a 37.7% strike percentage and a 69.3 percentage spare percentage. She also converted 36.4 percent of her splits. She had a 197.80 average and 989 total wood with a high game of 258, a career best. Her five scores were 220-193-160-158-258.

    Koehler was consistent throughout the match against Division-II Ursuline, throwing games of 190 and 200 followed by a 19.3 in Baker competition. She had a total of 14 strikes on the day, as SVC improved to 12-0 in the season, the only team in the NCAA that remains undefeated.

    Hammons was the anchor for a Panthers team that had a breakout week with two road matches against two conference opponents. UPB picked up a 3-1 win over PS-Behrend on Saturday and followed that up with a 3-0 victory over PS-Altoona on Sunday. Hammons led the Panthers with a 184.4 team match scoring average and a 16.9 Baker match average. She also rolled a single-game high of 200 against Behrend.

    Koehler set a new school record for a two-game series (434) and three-game series (610) in the dual match at PSU-Behrend. SVC's 6-0 week improved the team's record to 9-0 on the season. Koehler averaged a 20.17 during Baker match play and a 194.4 in the team match format. She also rolled a single-game high of 234.

    Walsh led the Mavericks to a (10-0) week as they captured the Medaille Bowling Invitational Championship. She averaged a tournament best (20.22) in Baker Frame Average and had a (19.24) average in traditional and had a individual best (213) on the weekend.
