The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) is preparing to host the AMCC Women's Wrestling Invitational this weekend at Hiram College. Wrestlers will take to the mats on Saturday morning at 11:00am in Price Gymnasium.
The Alfred State College Pioneers are 5-10 in their first official year of competition. Junior Dianna Pineda leads the Pios with 13 wins and a few open championships in her respective weight class. Of her 13 wins, eight of them came by fall. Sophomore Brooke Walsh also has seven wins on the season, with five wins coming by fall.
Buffalo State University has embarked on their inaugural season with a record of 5-8 on the year. The Bengals earned their win in program history against Maine Maritime Academy back in November and also earned wins against Hiram and Waynesburg. Leading the way for the Bengals has been the freshman duo of Rosaliz Aponte and Brooke Tarshis. The duo has been a staple of consistency, earning wins in nearly every match this season. The Bengals finished the regular season with a dominate 30-10 victory over Waynesburg, their second victory over the Yellowjackets this season.
The Hiram women's wrestling team enters the AMCC Invitational with big aspirations after a 2023-24 season saw three student-athletes competing at the NCWWC National Championships in Iowa last March: Lexi Doerflinger, Mallory Chunat and Erika Novak. All three of those student-athletes have returned with a vengeance this season, in addition to the program's all-time wins leader in senior Kylee Bentley and another veteran presence in junior Allydia Byard. Bentley leads the team in wins this winter, with Chunat, Doerflinger and Novak not far behind. The Terriers' dual wins this season have come against John Carroll, Rio Grande (Ohio) and Waynesburg.
The Penn State Altoona women’s wrestling team has competed in four events thus far in its inaugural NCAA season. The Lions have had two student-athletes selected as AMCC Women’s Wrestlers of the Week this season, including freshman Aja’nai Jumper most recently. Jumper leads Penn State Altoona in head-to-head wins with eight, while fellow freshmen Angelina Grieb and Camryn Steinbuch have seven and four wins, respectively.
