Penn State Altoona (9-9, 3-1 AMCC) women’s volleyball will be looking for its fourth AMCC win of the season when it hosts Mount Aloysius College (8-9, 2-1 AMCC) this Wednesday, October 14 in the Adler Gym. While the Lady Lions and Lady Mounties are close geographically, they are also close in the conference standings, ranking fourth and fifth, respectively, entering Wednesday’s match. The two teams will be battling it out to move up in the conference ranks as postseason play is only a few weeks away.

The Lady Mounties volleyball team has had a strong season so far. They opened up their conference weekend by beating Pitt-Bradford in five sets and then directly after that, taking on Penn State Behrend. They fought hard but ran out of gas against the Lions. The Mounties then took on Pitt-Greensburg a few days later and won a close battle, placing the Mounties at 2-1 in the conference. Mt. Aloysius is paced by a strong offensive threat and some big blockers who control the net. Junior outside hitter Lindsey Mercer is among the top three in the AMCC in kills per set (2.62) and total kills (181). Freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Yacobucci is fourth in the AMCC in hitting percentage (.297).

The Lady Lions will look for strong performances from sophomore middle hitter Tori Shingler
and senior outside hitters Becky Britton and Amanda Hammer to generate points. Shingler is
first in the AMCC in hitting percentage (.365), fourth in kills per set (2.56), and seventh in kills
(161). Shingler has also been a strong presence at the net, as she ranks second in solo blocks
(29), seventh in total blocks (41), and ninth in blocks per set (0.65). Britton has shown
versatility, as she ranks 14th in the conference in both kills per set (2.15) and kills (131) while
also ranking sixth in digs per set (4.33) and seventh in digs (264). Hammer has also been a
reliable force for her team, ranking sixth in the AMCC in kills per set (2.43) and solo blocks (16)
and ninth in kills (146). Her serve has also proved to be a weapon, as she is fifth in the league in
aces per set (0.42) and sixth in total aces (25). Distributing the ball to the hitters will be
sophomore setter Jenna Krivansky, who is third in the conference in assists per set (7.79) and
fourth in total assists (483). Junior libero Emily Baker will anchor the team defensively, and she
enters Wednesday ranking second in the AMCC in digs per set (5.03) and fifth in digs (317).
