BEHREND WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO TUFTS IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

The Tufts University women's soccer team struck early for a 2-0 lead that would stand to defeat Penn State Behrend in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships held at William Smith on Saturday.

Tufts (11-5-2) defeated Penn State Behrend (13-7) 2-0 and will now advance to the second round and face hosts William Smith.

Tufts' Liz Reed and Sophie Lloyd had a hand in both first-half goals. Reed scored in the 9th minute and 15th minute for Tufts, sending her first goal into the lower right corner from 20 yards out off a pass from Lloyd. The Jumbos snap the Lions' eight-game winning streak to end the season. Behrend freshman Brenna McGuire sent a shot right on a wide-open net in the 18th minute after charging Emily Bowers came out of the pipes. Tufts managed a 16-6 advantage in shots, including 13-1 on goal.

Behrend finishes the season with a 13-7 overall record.
