#3 D'YOUVILLE, #5 PENN ST. ALTOONA ADVANCE TO WOMEN'S SOCCER SEMIFINALS

In women's soccer first round action, #3 D'Youville College defeated #6 Franciscan University 2-0, while #5 Penn St. Altoona earned the upset victory over #4 Pitt-Greensburg, 3-1. D'Youville and Altoona both advance to the semifinals, to be played Wednesday, October 31.

The Spartans quickly got on the board first as sophomore forward Makenna Magee scored off a loose ball in the box just 1:43 into action to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. D'Youville pushed its lead to 2-0 just over three minutes later as senior forward Magan Magee scored off a corner kick by junior Kaylee Heschke. The 2-0 advantage was all the Spartans would need to advance to Wednesday's semifinal. Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak made four saves to help preserve the win for her team.

D'Youville will play at #2 Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

Altoona's win marked the first postseason victory for the Lady Lions' soccer team in nearly three years. Senior defender Sydney Emershaw, who entered the contest with no career goals scored, led the way for the Lady Lions with two goals. Freshman forward Sadie McConnell scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season, and sophomore midfielder Kierra Irwin recorded two assists. Goalkeeper Riley Barrett made eight saves between the pipes to pick up her team-best sixth win of the season for Penn State Altoona.

Penn St. Altoona will travel to top-seeded Penn State Behrend for an AMCC semifinal round game on Wednesday, October 31 at 5:00 p.m.
