PIONEERS SWEEP AMCC QUAD MEET

The Alfred State College men's wrestling team swept the day to claim their second straight AMCC regular season title. The Pioneers took down Penn State Behrend 27-15, before taking down Pitt Bradford 36-8 and Hiram College 42-9.

Alfred state jumped out to a 9-0 dual lead over Penn State Behrend with a Mason Drew fall win in 125 and an Elijah Moshenek 8-1 decision win. The Lions answered with four wins from Jake Brown, Peyton Hearn, Martin Ohlsson, and Lane Dellaquilla to take a 15-9 lead. The Pioneers' George Racz tallied a 12-9 decision win before Brent Perry got a first period fall in 1:44 to allow Alfred State to regain the lead. Alfred State's Sean Malenfant notched a 10-3 decision before Nic Barrett notched a second round fall to secure the win.

The Pioneers were in control against Pitt-Bradford, taking eight out of the ten matches. Alfred State freshman Ryan Farley opened the dual with a 12-5 decision win, then after a forfeit win Moshenek notched a 16-0 tech fall for the 14-0 lead. Then Ethan Morrison came away with an 8-3 decision win, before Benjamin Lloyd notched a 12-0 major decision win. Malenfant would get a forfeit win and Elijah Timbrouck and Blake Ilges tallied wins to secure the dual victory.

In the final dual of the night against Hiram, Alfred State took eight of the ten matches again, with four of those wins coming by fall. Drew got the first fall in 28 seconds, Morrison notched a 34 second fall, while Ilges and Barrett notched second period falls.  The Pios also tallied two decision wins on their way too victory.

Penn State Behrend picked up two victories on the day, earning their first win with a 53-6 triumph over Hiram. The Lions registered victories at nine of the 10 weight classes, which included six pinfalls against the hosts for their first team win of the afternoon. Brown, Ohlsson, Dellaquila, Zach Dellinger, and Matthew Caldwell all tallied pins for Behrend.
Freshman Nolan Fenton picked up his first collegiate victory at 197 with a pin in 43 seconds, one second ahead of Ohlsson's pin (44 seconds) for the fastest fall delivered by a Lion on Saturday. Hearn notched his second technical fall of the afternoon (19-3) in 4:44, while Cole Neil and Matthew Melchior nabbed forfeit wins.

Behrend registered its second victory of the conference duals with a 32-24 win over Pitt-Bradford. Hearn and Dellaquila finished off the day by picking up their team-high third victories with an injury forfeit and a pinfall in 1:09. Dellinger (Dec 12-6), Neil (TF 17-2 3:41), and Fenton (For.) earned their second victories of the meet for Behrend. Sophomore transfer Ja'Shad Bumpers notched his first victory as a Lion with a forfeit at 133.

Pitt-Bradford earned one victory on the day, as the Panthers defeated Hiram 30-11. The Panthers got off to a strong start as they used five pins to take down the hosts. Jacob Rodgers opened the day with a pin, finishing his opponent in 3:51 at 125. After a tough 1-0 loss at 141, Pitt-Bradford took a commanding lead with wins at 149 and 157. Nikolas Fegert won his match with a pin at 2:54, and then Raymond Worsen III followed with a pin at 2:00. Hiram was able to close the gap to seven points with a Seth Holt decision victory at 165 and a tech fall by Jimmy Thomas at 174, but following a double forfeit at 184, Colton Gietler and Gavin Thompson secured the victory with a pair of pins. Gietler won in 2:45 at 197, and Thompson won the heavyweight class in 2:46.
