ALFRED STATE REPEATS AS AMCC MEN'S WRESTLING CHAMPIONS

The Alfred State College men's wrestling team repeats as AMCC conference tournament champions, as 14 wrestlers placed top four and seven earned individual conference titles.

Alfred State earned a conference-leading 191.5 points to claim the team title for the second year in a row. Pennsylvania College of Technology finished in second with 123.5, while Penn State Behrend finished in third with 96.0 points. Pitt-Bradford's 52.5 points gave them a fourth place finish, while Hiram College rounded out the field with 21.5 points.

Sean Malenfant was named Most Outstanding Wrestler on his way to becoming the 184 champion.  Malenfant started his day with a bye, then he followed with a 1:28 fall over his Penn College opponent to earn a spot in the first-place match before notching a win in the first-place match to claim the title.

Alfred State's Mason Drew had the first match of the day and won by an 11-3 major decision over his opponent from Penn State Behrend. Drew would then notch a fall in the semis to advance to the first-place match where he would get an early second round fall over Penn College to claim the 125 championship.

Pioneer Zach Levey claimed the 133 AMCC title after a 3-0 day. His day started with a 3:19 fall over Pitt-Bradford before tallying another fall in the semifinal round, this time in 4:11 over his Behrend opponent for a spot in the finals. He then got the 4-1 sudden victory in the finals for the title.

Penn College's Noah Hunt, who was ranked third in the Feb. 9 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Mideast Region, claimed the 141-pound individual championship with a 3-0 record with a pin, win by technical fall and then a decision in the final. 

At 149, Penn State Behrend senior Peyton Hearn became one of Behrend's first two AMCC champions in program history. Hearn started the day with a 19-2 technical fall over his Penn College opponent, before posting a 12-2 major decision in the semifinal round. In the championship match, Hearn took down his Wildcat opponent by a 7-5 decision to claim the 149 title.

Penn State Behrend's Martin Ohlsson become the second of two AMCC champions on the day, with Ohlsson's victory coming in the 157 bracket. The newcomer pinned his Alfred State opponent to open things up, then had a close 12-11 decision in the semifinals to advance to the championship bout. Ohlsoon won 5-3 in the finals to claim the 157 weight class.

The 165 title was claimed by Alfred State's Justin Smith, Smith notched a 1:01 fall over Behrend to advance to the first-place match. Then Smith got an 8-4 decision win over Pitt Bradford to claim the title.

Pioneer Brent Perry won the 174 title after going 3-0 on the day. In his opening match, Perry notched a late first round fall over Behrend. He followed with an 8-1 decision win over  Hiram to earn a spot in the finals.

Alfred State's Blake Ilges claimed the 197 title. Ilges started the day with a 2:15 fall over Hiram before notching a 21-3 tech fall win over Behrend to advance to the finals. In the first place match, Ilges tallied a 15-5 major decision win over Behrend to claim the title.

Nick Barrett of Alfred State was the last individual champion as he won the 285 title. Barrett's day started with a 1:20 fall, he then tallied a 3-1 decision win over Penn College for a spot in the finals. In the first-place match, Barrett notched a 6-1 decision win over Pitt Bradford to claim the 285 title
