WRESTLERS CONCLUDE SEASON AT REGIONALS

AMCC wrestlers brought their 2022-23 campaigns to a close this past weekend as they competed in NCAA Regional events.

Alfred State College and Pitt-Bradford wrestlers traveled to Ithaca, NY to compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Qualifying tournament, while Penn State Behrend wrestlers competed in the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by York College

Alfred State sophomores Sean Malenfant and Zachary Levey wrestled Friday at the second day of the NCAA Mideast Regional. Malenfant and Levey each earned all-region honors.

Malenfant advanced to the consolation semifinals with a pinfall victory over a past national qualifier. Malenfant fell in the semifinal in a 7-1 decision and finished in 5th place. Levey finished in 7th place in the region. He was dominant in his victory with a tech-fall win to earn his status as all-region.

The Pioneers finished their most successful season in their short NCAA history. With Malenfant breaking the ASC pin record, winning the inaugural AMCC Championships and the team's best dual record in school history.

Pitt-Bradford only had a handful of healthy wrestlers able to make the trip, as five Panthers competed in the event.

D.J. Slovick was the only Panther able to win his opening match, as he pinned his opponent in 3:46 in the 165-pound weight class. Unfortunately, he was not able to advance beyond the quarterfinals, as he lost his next match by a 6-2 decision. He was also unable to reach the podium, as he was pinned in his next match, ending his season. He totaled 3.0 team points for the event.

Cameron Carter-Green was the only other Panther that was able to win a match on the day. After falling 13-4 in his opener in the heavyweight class, Carter-Green was able to pick up a win by major decision in the next round, shutting out his opponent for an 8-0 win. He was unable to advance any further, as he fell by a 10-7 decision in the next round.

The Behrend Lions had seven wrestlers compete at Regionals. At heavyweight, Kyle Trim dropped to the consolation bracket after his first match. Trim battled Austin Williams of Delaware Valley, falling by a 9-5 decision. Trim then defeated Brock Hofler of York College by major decision (10-0) to give him another chance of making it to day two. Trim fell in his final match, 6-1, to Hayden Benner of Messiah. This tournament concludes the season for Behrend
