Thiel College defeated Wittenberg University, 3-1,  to win their first ever AMCC men's volleyball title on Saturday.  

After dropping the first set 25-22, the Tomcats roared back to take the next three, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20.

Thiel's top efforts came from Jacob Burkley, who was a perfect 11 for 11 on kill attempts, Jacob DeRue (13 kills, 5 digs) and setter Stephen Borgen (40 assists, 10apg).

Wittennberg's top performers were Deion Woodson (13 kills, 4 digs), Justin Luby (11 kills) and Ross Russell (34 assists).

This was the second upset in a row for the Tomcats, who defeated #2 Geneva College on Friday night in a 5 set thriller before taking down top seeded Wittenberg.  The Tigers, who earned the regular season title, defeated #4 Penn St. Behrend to advance to the championship game.

The men's volleyball tournament is the first in the AMCC since the conference expanded to include Wittenberg, Geneva, Thiel and Hiram as affiliate members for the spring 2019 season.  They joined AMCC members Penn St. Behrend, Penn St. Altoona, Medaille College and D'Youbille College.  The league will be eligibile for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament in 2021.
