AMCC WELCOMES GENEVA COLLEGE AS AFFILIATE MEMBER IN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

The AMCC is proud to announce the addition Geneva College as an affiliate member in the sport of men's volleyball effective with the Spring 2019 season.

The Golden Tornadoes join Hiram College, Thiel College and Wittenberg University to partner with AMCC members Medaille College, D’Youville College, Penn St. Behrend and Penn St. Altoona to sponsor the sport under the AMCC umbrella.

Due to the NCAA-mandated two-year waiting period of sponsoring a sport before earning an automatic bid to the national tournament, the AMCC will not be granted the automatic bid until the 2020-21 season.   Until that time, the eight teams will compete for the conference title in a post-season tournament following a double round robin regular season, and vie for a Pool C bid.

"We are thrilled to have Geneva men’s volleyball make their intercollegiate competition debut with the AMCC," remarked Commissioner Donna Ledwin in making the announcement.  “AMCC members have competed against their teams in many sports over the years, so we enjoy a strong level of familiarity with and respect for each other.  It’s a very good fit.”

2018-19 will mark the first season for the Golden Tornadoes’ men's volleyball program at the varsity level, becoming the college's 17th varsity sport. They expect to have a full time coach on board by June 1.

“We are extremely excited about our affiliate membership with the AMCC to begin a varsity men’s volleyball program,” said Geneva AD Van Zanic. “We have seen great success with our club team in recent years and with the opportunity to join the AMCC as an affiliate member, it was the right time to add men’s volleyball to our menu of intercollegiate programs. We look forward to developing competitive relationships with the other volleyball members in the conference and quickly putting together a program that will compete at a high level and represent Geneva College and the AMCC very well.”
