LIONS' HUEY NAMED AVCA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball sophomore outside hitter Matt Huey was announced as the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday.

This marks the first time in Penn State Altoona men's volleyball program history that a player has garnered a weekly award on the national level. This season, Huey has already been recognized on a conference level and regionally, getting a slew of weekly honors from the North Eastern Athletic Conference, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, and the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region.

Huey posted another outstanding week for the Lions, who went 3-0 in last weekend's NEAC crossover action in the Adler Gym.

Huey had double-digit kill totals in all three matches, including a season-high 23 kills to go with nine digs and six blocks in a 3-1 win over Keuka College on Friday afternoon. He then smacked 15 kills on a .382 hitting percentage while adding five digs in a 3-0 sweep over SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday morning, followed by 14 kills, nine digs and three solo blocks in a 3-1 win over Wells College later that day.

On the week, Huey posted 52 kills (4.73 kills per set), 23 digs (2.09 digs per set), and 11 blocks (1.00 blocks per set). The sophomore now leads the conference in both kills (3.95) and points (4.7) per set and is second in solo blocks (23).
