The AMCC is sending two teams to the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) tournament this weekend, both for the third straight year.
Number five seed Medaille will take on #4 Elmira College. while seventh-seeded Behrend will face #2 SUNY New Paltz.
Behrend finished the regular season 15-8 overall and a 5-6 mark
in the conference to post its first winning season since volleyball
became varsity sport in 2012. Their opponent is currently ranked
No. 2 in the AVCA Coaches Poll. In their only meeting this
season, the Lions fell to New Paltz, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-14).
The Mavericks, the AMCC champion with a perfect 8-0
record vs. AMCC opponents, closed the regular season at 16-9
overall and 9-3 vs. UVC foes. They are currently ranked #9 in
the AVCA Coaches Poll. Elmira edged Medaille, 3-1, by the
narrowest of margins in the regular season (22-25, 25-15,
25-22, 25-23).
The winners will advance to the semifinals later on Saturday, with the championship slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Six of the eight teams in the UVC Tournament are nationally ranked in the latest Division III Top 15 poll. The Lions have faced nine nationally-ranked opponents this season, upsetting NYU and Vassar.
