PENN STATE ALTOONA WINS THIRD STRAIGHT AMCC MEN'S GOLF TITLE

The Penn State Altoona men's golf team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship for the third consecutive season and eighth time overall on Tuesday, when the Lions finished in first place out of nine teams at the conclusion of the second and final round of the tournament at Indiana Country Club.

With the victory, Penn State Altoona receives the AMCC's automatic berth to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships. The Lions will make their seventh-ever NCAA postseason appearance at the national tournament, which is scheduled for May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

Pitt-Greensburg earned AMCC runner-up status with a two-day team score of 648, and Penn State Behrend placed third with 657.

Penn State Altoona's Trey Heffelfinger won the AMCC individual title, edging past teammate Peter Nusbaum in a playoff. Heffelfinger and Nusbaum finished atop the 44-player leaderboard, after both compiled two-round scores of 148, with Nusbaum shooting 74 on Tuesday and Heffelfinger firing a 77. Nusbaum had to birdie the 18th hole to force the playoff before Heffelfinger won the playoff on the first hole by sinking a 20 foot birdie putt.

Pitt-Greensburg's Anthony Treonze finished third with a two-day score of 153, shooting a 75 on day one and a 78 on day two. Altoona's Jack DiTrani shot 77 in Tuesday's round, totaling 155 in the tournament to finish in fourth place individually. Rounding out the top five was Penn State Behrend's Jake Caldwell who compiled a two-day score of 158.

The top five finishers each earned spots on the AMCC's All-Tournament team by virtue of their top-five finishes.
