PENN ST. ALTOONA SITS IN FIRST AFTER DAY ONE OF AMCC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Penn State Altoona men’s golf held down first place at the conclusion of Monday’s round in the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at Butler Country Club.

The Lions shot 324 as a team to rank atop the eight-team pack. Penn State Behrend was in second with 330, and Pitt-Greensburg earned third place with 343. Mount Aloysius College compiled a team score of 351 to rank fourth, Pitt-Bradford was fifth with 358, and Hilbert College shot 360 to come in sixth. Medaille College was seventh with 400, and La Roche University rounded out the crowd with 423 to place eighth.

Monday’s round featured windy conditions and higher-than-average scores across the board.

Penn State Altoona’s Andrew Ferguson secured first place individually by shooting 77 on the par 71 course. Penn State Behrend’s Alex Pol and Dominic DeBone each carded 79 to tie for second, and Pitt-Bradford’s Jarod Chaffee and Penn State Altoona’s Logan Divald tied for fourth place with 81.

Penn State Altoona’s Trey Heffelfinger and Hilbert’s Zachary Blount tied for sixth place with scores of 82. Mount Aloysius’ Aloysius Lee and Pitt-Greensburg’s Will Thorp fired a pair of 83 scores to tie for eighth place. Penn State Behrend’s Ryan Johnson, Pitt-Greensburg’s Joe McGinn, and Penn State Altoona’s Iain Murphy-Herndon each shot 84 to tie for 10th place.

The AMCC Championships continue tomorrow, Tuesday, October 19 starting at 9:00 a.m. for the second and final round of the event. By the conclusion of Tuesday’s round, the AMCC will crown a conference champion and send that team to the NCAA Tournament in the spring.
