The AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week features the top two teams in the conference, as the 7-0 Pitt-Bradford Panthers travel to Altoona, PA to take on the 6-1 Penn State Altoona Lions.
Pitt-Bradford enters the AMCC Game of the Week at 14-1 with a 7-0 mark in AMCC play. The Panthers are third in the NCAA in scoring at 107.5 points per game, third in turnovers forced per game with 24.47 and second in free throws made with 20.1. They are led by reigning AMCC Player of the Week Jamarion Butler who averages 23.9 points per game, which is first in the AMCC and seventh in the nation. While Butler leads the team, they also use a balanced offensive attack as four other Panthers average double figures. Freshman Braylen Salters averages 16.6 points per game, while Jeremy Rodriguez scores 13.5, Rodd Yarbrough adds 11.8 and Jesse Laster averages 10.3.
Penn State Altoona enters Wednesday night’s home game against Pitt-Bradford riding a four-game winning streak and holding a 6-1 record within the AMCC. Senior forward Dwayne Jones has helped lead the way for the Lions, as he ranks first in the conference in blocks (34) and defensive rebounds (111) while also being second in total rebounds (134) and rebounds per game (8.4) and sixth in points per game (17.4). Freshman guard Kal-El Gentles has also been having a strong season, and he is second in the AMCC in assists (62), 10th in rebounds per game (5.9), and 16th in points per game (13.4). Two other Lion starters are averaging double digits in points, with junior guard Kaden Claar scoring 10.7 per game and freshman forward Nehemiah Frye averaging 10.0 per game. As a team, Penn State Altoona is second in the AMCC in field goal percentage (47.0), and the Lions’ defense has been strong, leading the conference in blocks per game (4.3) while ranking second in the league in turnovers forced per game (16.7), steals per game (9.1), and opponent field goal percentage (43.7).
