FOUR D'YOUVILLE SENIORS ETCH THEIR PLACE IN SCHOOL HISTORY

Four senior basketball players for the D'Youville men's and women's basketball teams rewrote the history books this season, with each putting their names amongst the best to ever dawn the red and black. 

On December 7, 2015, forward Alexis Smith scored her 1,000th point as a Spartan. To date, Smith has scored 1,071 points, including averaging 10.4 points per game this season. Over the course of her career, Smith has averaged 12.0 points per game. As a freshman, Smith led the team in scoring with 15.7 points per game and set the program single game scoring record with 35 points. Her 7.1 rebounds per game was also a team high. Smith was named to the AMCC all-conference second team and was chosen as the AMCC Newcomer of the Year that season. Smith has started 79 of 89 games throughout the course of her career.

Guard/forward Shannon Dougherty was the second member of the D'Youville women's basketball team to break into the 1,000 scoring plateau this season. On January 10, 2016, she scored a pair of free throws to join Smith this season and become the tenth player in program history to do so. Dougherty is the team's leading scorer this season, averaging 10.8 points per game and over her career, Dougherty has scored 1,005 points and averaged 11.2 points per game. She has started 85 of 90 games in her four year career and averaged double-digit scoring every year. In 2013-14, Dougherty started all 26 of her games played. She averaged 10.7 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game and was named to the AMCC all-conference third team. Shannon has started 85 of 90 games in her career.

Forward Jon Gemerek has been a leader for the D'Youville men's basketball team throughout his four year career for the Spartans. On December 12, 2015, against La Roche, Gemerek scored his 1,000th point, becoming the third player in program history to do so. He has scored 1,060 points and is averaging 10.1 points per game this season, fourth on the team. Since his sophomore season, Gemerek has served as one of the team's captains in each season. He has been an AMCC Academic all-conference player his first three seasons as well. Last season, Gemerek averaged a career high 12.5 points per game and his career average is 11.7 points per game. In each of his four seasons at D'Youville, Gemerek has averaged double-digit points per game. In four years, Gemerek has started 85 of 91 games, including all 41 over the last two seasons.

Against Pitt.-Greensburg last season in the first round of the AMCC playoffs, guard Marcus Clarke 
scored his 1,000th point for the Spartans. This season on January 16, 2016 against Penn State-Altoona, Clarke became the all-time leading scorer in D'Youville men's basketball NCAA history. 
Marcus is the team's leading scorer this season with 12.7 points per game. Clarke exploded for 17.1 points per game during his sophomore season and has averaged double-digit points in all four years of his career. He currently has 1,193 points in 91 career games. Marcus is experiencing career highs in assists per game (3.5) and minutes per game (27.5) this season, which are also both tops on the team. In his three seasons, Marcus split time between starting and being the team's sixth man. This season he has started all 15 of the team's games.
