HERSTINE HOMERS IN LOSS TO RANDOLPH MACON

HERSTINE HOMERS IN LOSS TO RANDOLPH MACON

#11 La Roche College fell to #2 Randolph Macon 19-6 in the final game of the NCAA Mideast Regional winner's bracket on Friday evening. The Redhawks will play tomorrow at 1:15pm against the winner of the #20 TCNJ vs. Wooster game.

The Redhawks looked good early and Colin Williamson got the scoring started in the first. Williamson singled, advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt and then scored on a Corey Lazor groundout.

Ben Herstine's hot bat gave La Roche a 3-0 cushion in the third inning. Luis Navedo drew a 1-out walk and Herstine followed with a 2-run shot deep over the left-centerfield wall.

Rick Spiers jump-started Randolph Macon's offense in the fifth inning with a leadoff home run over the left field wall. Christina Sanderson and Travis Lodge followed with a walk and hit by pitch to put runners on first and second with no out. Randolph Macon's Nick Maiolo followed with a double just inside the left field line to give the Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the game.

Randolph Macon continued to showcase a strong offense over the final four innings. Tyler Craig and Shane Roebuck each hit in a run but the Yellow Jackets lead was too much for La Roche to overcome.

Herstine went 2 for 4 with a home run, double and 2 RBI. Ian Velez scored twice while Shane Roebuck had 2 hits including a run-scoring single.

The winner of La Roche vs. TCNJ/Wooster will advance to play Randolph Macon in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship.
