LA ROCHE GETS PAST W&J - ADVANCES FURTHER THAN ANY REDHAWK TEAM IN HISTORY

The 2015 La Roche Baseball team is going where no Redhawk team has gone before. With a 4-1 victory over host Washington & Jefferson, La Roche moves on to Championship Saturday of the NCAA Mideast Regional. Senior Cory Podvasnik also made history by breaking the school's single season home run mark with his eleventh of the season.

Starting pitcher sophomore David Lemely tossed the Redhawks third complete game in a row. He gave up just one run and scattered five hits over nine innings.

La Roche struck first on a Podvasnik RBI single to left field scoring sophomore Luis Navedo. Washington & Jefferson was threatening in the third inning with runners on second and third but junior Tyler Craig made a back-handed scoop and Podvasnik picked a ball off the turf to end the inning. Craig came through again in the fourth turning a double play to help Lemely get out of a bases loaded no-out jam.

The Redhawks extended the lead to two runs in the fifth on junior Colin Williamson's sacrifice fly to deep centerfield. W&J got one back in the sixth but another Feikles-Craig double play kept the lead.

Then in the bottom half of the inning Podvasnik hit his record-breaking home run. Lemely shut the President's down over the final three innings and struck out a pair in the ninth inning.

Podvasnik hit in three runs and Williamson had an RBI. Navedo scored twice with Podvasnik and Sabatini adding runs.
