BERHEND'S CARR ADVANCES TO NATIONALS

Penn St. Behrend freshman Savanna Carr became the second-ever Penn State Behrend women's cross country runner to advance to the NCAA Championship after finishing seventh at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Mideast Regional on Saturday afternoon. This marks the best finish by a female cross country runner at NCAA Regionals in Penn State Behrend history. Franciscan junior Grace Galligan earned all-region honors as she took 30th overall with her career-best time and the Franciscan women's cross country team took 28th as a team.

The Lions, who finished 12th in the team standing, posted their best overall efforts in program history at the NCAA Regionals.

Carr was named to the All-Freshman Team after running a time of 22:14.1 to advance to the national event. The freshman has won two races thus far in 2017, including the AMCC Championship meet back on October 28.

Behrend had three other runners post top-115 times, Sophomore Riley Crissman finished 49th with a time of 23:59.5, and juniors Courtney Sargent and Jenna Shelton came in at the exact same time, crossing the line at 113th and 114th with a time of 24:38.6.

With her seventh place finish in Carlisle, Carr will now compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship on November 18.

Galligan was the top Franciscan runner as she finished 30th overall with her career-best time of 23:08.3. The 30th place finish was good enough for all-region honors for the junior, the first of her career.

Turning in her second-best time of the season, Baron senior Deirdre Coyle finished at 24:46.3, 125th overall and junior Bernadette Williams took 144th overall with a time of 25:11.0.
