AMCC WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD TEAMS SET SIGHTS ON CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

The United East Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet will take place on Monday, February 26 with the AMCC sending three member schools to participate as affiliates. Alfred State College, Carlow University, and Penn State Behrend will all travel to Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex (Landover, MD) for the 2024 champioship meet.

The Alfred State track team has been setting new school records at every meet this season. For the women's team, freshman Oli Kraynik has won multiple events at record setting paces. She is also a AARTFC qualifier in the 400 dash. In the distance events, senior Izzy Popoff has consistently been in the top-15 of her events. Sarah Rivet has been getting back in the groove in the 200 meter dash, after being an AARTFC qualifier last year in multiple event.

The Carlow women’s team finished 4th of 11 teams last season at the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship. Senior Molly Wagner brought home first place in both the 60-meter dash and the 400. She placed second in the 200 with a time of 26.42. Wagner was also part of the 4x400 relay team that brought home second place and broke the school record in the event. Senior Keri Lechner qualified for NAIA nationals in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a 9.08 finish, which surpassed the "B" standard mark. The school record and personal best time also broke the RSC meet record of 9.10. This season, Wagner has earned AMCC Athlete of the Week honors four times; Christina Smith earned the same distinction twice; and newcomer Sydney Taylor earned it recently for her accomplishments in the field.

The Behrend women’s indoor track & field team competed in seven meets prior to the United East Championships. On December 9 at Mount Union, freshman Rylee Long jumped 36-10 ¼ to break the school record that was previously set 17 years ago (36-9) and qualified for AARTFC with this distance. Also, at Mount Union Madison Kappeler earned a first-place finish with a new personal best and AARTFC qualifying mark of 11-1 in the pole vault, marking the first time in her career that she has gone over 11' in competition. Junior Ivy Laffan recorded a pair of season-bests at Ashland, running a season-best in the 400 dash with a time of 1:01.31 for fifth place and then finished sixth with a season-best and indoor personal record time of 27.37 in the 200 dash.
