Top seed and three-time defending champion Pitt-Greensburg will meet #2 Penn St. Behrend in the finals of the AMCC women's tennis championship on Sunday.
The Bobcats were undefeated in regular season conference play, and extended that streak with a 3-0 win over #4 Mount Aloysius College. Eaagch team entered the match with just four players, altering the format from a best of seven to a best of five.
The Pitt-Greensburg duo of Gabrielle Moder and Nancy Jiang cruised to a 6-1 decision over the Mounties' tandem of Caylie Conlon and Amelia Miller to take the doubles point. Clinch points were earned by Jiang at #2 singles and Devon Ulmer at #3 singles.
In the second match, Behrend started strong, winning against their Penn St. rivals from Altoona at #1 and #2 doubles to earn the first point of the match. The Lions team of Tamanna Sharma and Enisa Siljkovic tamed Penn St. Altoona's Caitlin Blessel and Rachel Stricek, 6-1. Their teammates Lauren Burkley and Lindsey Kerlin took care of the PSA team of Sienna Fell and Abigail Morgan, 6-1. Behrend added singles victories at #1 (Sharma), #2 (Slijkovic) and #4 (Kerlin) to seal the 4-1 win.
Lexi Colainni won at #5 singles in straight sets to give the Altoona Lions their only point.
The regular season meeting between the Bobcats and the Lions ended in a 5-2 victory for Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats will be looking for their fourth title while the Lions are hoping to make it 11, with their last coming in 2020.
The finals will be at 1:30pm Sunday at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford PA. The winner will earn the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
